Dutch Language and Culture in secondary education – integrated

Dutch-language students at Compass International School Doha have the option of taking Dutch as part of the teaching schedule at Compass. LanguageOne Doha’s integrated curriculum for students in secondary education enables admission to Dutch, Flemish and international education and preparation for Dutch exams.

LanguageOne has developed a new Dutch curriculum that follows the curricular requirements of the International Baccalaureate® (IB), which meets the core objectives of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Reference Levels for language. Our approach mainly emphasises learning to use the Dutch language. Your children will carry out meaningful language and culture-related tasks in a way that resonates and connects with their world and that will facilitate possible repatriation to the Netherlands or Flanders.

The teaching is thematic and distributed across so-called units. A unit is a curriculum about a specific theme that will be treated over the course of a number of weeks. The units cover various skills such as reading, writing, speaking and listening, centred around a (cultural) theme. Each unit is rounded off with an assessment.

In practice: Unit We are all migrants

Our students learn about the differences between people, where everyone is from and what they as human beings represent. The subject of migration is covered, with our students cooperating on various assignments. Your child will research World War II and discuss the subject with classmates.

We can prepare our students for (final) examinations. In consultation with the teacher, we can offer coaching for sitting the Certificate Dutch as a Foreign Language examination, the Dutch A Literature IB Diploma Programme or British A Level examinations. However, A Level examinations will be offered for the last time in the summer of 2018.
