LanguageOne Muscat’s programme for Dutch-language students in secondary education enables admission to Dutch, Flemish and international education and preparation for Dutch exams.
LanguageOne has developed a new Dutch programme that follows the curricular requirements of the International Baccalaureate® (IB), which meets the core objectives of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Reference Levels for Language. Our approach mainly emphasises learning to use the Dutch language. Your children will carry out meaningful language and culture-related tasks in a way that resonates and connects with their world and that will facilitate possible repatriation to the Netherlands or Flanders.
Our students take 3 hours of themed after-school classes per week at British School Muscat, distributed across so-called units. They are also given a homework assignment of at least one hour. A unit is a set of lessons about a specific theme that will be treated over the course of a number of weeks. The units cover various skills such as reading, writing, speaking and listening around a (cultural) theme. Each unit is rounded off with an assessment.
In practice: Unit ‘Your life is a bestseller’
Central to this unit is the influence that reading literature has on our social skills and empathic abilities. Our students read, analyse and have a group discussion about Bibi Dumon Tak’s book Latino King. By doing creative writing assignments your children will learn the difference between fiction and non-fiction. To conclude the unit, our students research the true stories behind Latino King.
We can prepare our students for (final) examinations. In consultation with the teacher, we can offer coaching for sitting the Certificate Dutch as a Foreign Language examination, the IB examination (Diploma Programme).
The school guide (in Dutch) contains detailed information about subjects such as intake and placement, assessment, parent involvement and quality.
The tuition fee is €3260 (private rate)|€4400 (corporate rate). Further details are stated in our General Terms & Conditions (in Dutch).
The schedule below has not been confirmed yet and is based on school year 2017-2018.
