LanguageOne Online’s programme for Dutch-language students in secondary education enables admission to Dutch, Flemish and international education and preparation for Dutch exams.
LanguageOne has developed a new Dutch programme that follows the curricular requirements of the International Baccalaureate® (IB), which meets the core objectives of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Reference Levels for language. Our approach mainly emphasises learning to use the Dutch language. Your children will carry out meaningful language and culture-related tasks in a way that resonates and connects with their world and that will facilitate possible repatriation to the Netherlands or Flanders.
Our students take 2.5 to 3 hours of themed classes per week or every other week, which are distributed across so-called units, including a 30-minute Skype class. A unit is a set of lessons about a specific theme that will be treated over the course of a number of weeks. The units cover various skills such as reading, writing, speaking and listening around a (cultural) theme. Each unit is rounded off with an assessment.
The Skype class is scheduled at the same time each week. During the Skype lesson the teacher provides instruction, discusses work, offers feedback and helps the student get started on their next assignments. The teacher also provides parents and students with a yearly timetable that details the programme for each week. Our cutting-edge learning environment makes it easy for the teacher, students and parents alike to track learning progress.
In practice: Unit ‘Your life is a bestseller’
Central to this unit is the influence that reading literature has on our social skills and empathic abilities. Our students read, analyse and have a group discussion about Bibi Dumon Tak’s book Latino king. By doing creative writing assignments your children will learn the difference between fiction and non-fiction. To conclude the unit, our students research the true stories behind Latino king.
Once they have acquired a sufficient grasp of Dutch, we help our students prepare for the CNaVT examination, the IB Dutch A SSST or Dutch B SSST examination or the Dutch ATAR examination.
The school guide (in Dutch) contains detailed information about subjects such as intake and placement, assessment, parent involvement and quality.
The tuition fees for the school year 2018-2019 can be found in our General Terms & Conditions (in Dutch).
