Dutch Language and Culture in secondary education – after-school

LanguageOne Perth’s programme for Dutch-language students in classes 1 to 6 of secondary education enables admission to Dutch, Flemish and international education and preparation for Dutch exams.

LanguageOne has developed a new Dutch programme that follows the curricular requirements of the International Baccalaureate® (IB), which meets the core objectives of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Reference Levels for Language. Our approach mainly emphasises learning to use the Dutch language. Your children will carry out meaningful language and culture-related tasks in a way that resonates and connects with their world and that will facilitate possible repatriation to the Netherlands or Flanders.

Our students take 2 hours of themed after-school classes per week at Quintilian School, which are distributed across so-called units. They are also given a homework assignment of at least one hour. A unit is a set of lessons about a specific theme that will be treated over the course of a number of weeks. The units cover various skills such as reading, writing, speaking and listening around a (cultural) theme. Each unit is rounded off with an assessment.

In practice: Unit Living abroad

Our students work on their literary skills. They will explore the question of whether living abroad influences their personal development. The students will read the book Heimwee naar hagelslag and write an assignment about it. They will also research the history of Dutch emigration and do an assignment that involves writing an informal letter and making a poster.

Examinations
We can prepare our students for (final) examinations. We offer coaching for sitting the Certificate Dutch as a Foreign Language examination, the Dutch A Literature IB Diploma Programme or the Australian ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).
