LanguageOne is an international provider of Dutch language and culture education for children growing up abroad. Mother tongue education abroad helps children continue to actively develop their language skills, even in a multilingual environment. LanguageOne has lesson locations in Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai, Geneva, Hong Kong, Houston, Ibiza, Kuala Lumpur, Muscat, Perth, Poland and Singapore. Families who do not live near one of our locations can choose LanguageOne Online.
Yes. Through LanguageOne Online, children worldwide can take online lessons. The online programme is available for students aged 4 to 18. You can choose between private lessons and group lessons.
LanguageOne offers education for children aged 3 to 18. At some locations, the exact age ranges may vary slightly. For adults, a separate online NT2 programme is available.
The lesson schedule varies per location. At many locations, students follow approximately three hours of Dutch per week alongside their day school. Lessons may be integrated into the school programme or take place after school hours. LanguageOne Online has its own online schedule.
School fees vary per location and depend, among other factors, on your child’s age, the type of programme, the entry moment, and sometimes also the lesson schedule. Therefore, there is no single standard fee that applies to all locations.

Yes, you can pay your child’s school fees in three instalments. The division of the amount, any associated costs, and the relevant dates can be found in the terms and conditions of the relevant LanguageOne location.
Of course. The terms and conditions include a refund table showing the relevant periods and percentages. For example, if you leave in December, you may receive a refund of 40% of the school fees. This is only possible after a written withdrawal submitted to the location leader.
Your son or daughter can start at LanguageOne at any time during the year. An exception to this is the examination year. You can make an appointment with the location leader for an introductory meeting. During this conversation, we will first determine which group your child will be placed in. In consultation with the location leader and your child’s teacher, the lesson start date will then be agreed upon.
Yes, the location leader of your current location can connect you with the location leader of the new location. In consultation, you can then enrol your child at the new location. As you are already a LanguageOne customer, you will of course not need to pay the enrolment fee again. In addition, your child’s LanguageOne teachers will be in contact with each other, so your child can smoothly transition into the new group within the same lesson programme.
Yes, usually this is possible. At many locations, children can start at different moments during the school year, depending on availability and level. Different conditions may apply in examination years. The location leader will work with you to determine which group is most suitable and when your child can start.
Absolutely! You are very welcome to join LanguageOne Online. Are there other students at your location who would like to take part in in-class group lessons? That is also possible! Please contact us to discuss the available options.
LanguageOne is affiliated with the Foundation for Dutch Education Worldwide (NOB). This means, among other things, that we receive educational support, stay up to date with developments in Dutch education, and are part of an international network of Dutch schools abroad.
Yes. At the lesson locations, it is possible to request a trial lesson. Afterwards, the location leader will contact you to make an appointment and see what is most suitable for your child.
At some locations, we offer children with limited Dutch language skills the possibility to take private lessons. Private lessons are not available at all locations, but we are happy to help find the best possible solution for your child. We provide tailored education in small classes. The LanguageOne curriculum is thematic and consists of units that focus on meaningful language and cultural tasks, relevant to the world of children and young people. Various skills such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening are addressed within each (cultural) theme. Our curriculum is based on both the IB (International Baccalaureate) and the Dutch national curriculum. We use, among other things, Nieuwsbegrip and Taal actief in our lessons.
The curriculum for primary school students focuses on the language domains of reading, writing, oral communication, and language conventions. In secondary education, language skills are mainly used to further develop proficiency in Dutch, for example through literature, with a view to preparing students for examination programs.

Certificate of Dutch as a Foreign Language (CNaVT)
The CNaVT exam Educatief Startbekwaam is intended for students who plan to enrol at a Dutch-language university or university of applied sciences. Students are expected to demonstrate both oral and written proficiency in abstract and theoretical texts. The exam is administered by LanguageOne and consists of reading and writing components, a listening test, and an oral exam. The assignments are assessed by the CNaVT examination office.
Yes, LanguageOne offers IB Dutch A both in-class and online. IB Dutch B is offered at selected locations. These programmes align with the final requirements of the International Baccalaureate and are intended for students approximately 16 to 18 years old who wish to include Dutch in their examination package.
In Grades 11 and 12, the choice of examination programme is leading. In addition to reading literary works, the Laagland literature method is used for further depth, along with a broad selection of different text types and sources. Homework is provided weekly via the digital learning environment Itslearning.
LanguageOne offers the following pathway: International Baccalaureate (IB)
Within Dutch Language and Culture education, we offer Dutch A SSST – Standard Level (School-Supported Self-Taught Programme). In this two-year programme, students read nine literary works at native-speaker level and complete both written and oral assignments. The teacher provides guidance throughout the programme, while the examinations taken in the second year are centrally assessed by the IB.

LanguageOne programmes are designed to help students transition smoothly in the event of a return to the Netherlands or Flanders. LanguageOne indicates that students continue to meet the language requirements for entry into Dutch or Flemish education.
